The Irish Pavilion is one of 242 pavilions taking part in the six month long Shanghai Expo 2010 which opened to the public on May 1st 2010.Under the Expo theme of ‘Better City, Better Life’, the Pavilion shall showcase the Republic of Ireland’s cultural, historical and business credentials within a 1,500sq.m exhibition space built across inclined internal gallery spaces. The gallery spaces are wrapped around an internal courtyard plaza serving as a performance space with dynamic lightweight canopies offering semi enclosure and solar shading.

The Pavilion offers an inclined green roof leading to a VIP lounge offering function facilities and a key vantage point across the Expo site, whilst the entire pavilion is set above a folding landscape of grass banks evocative of Ireland’s coastal landscape. The pavilion is wrapped in a semi translucent outer skin which offers a changing visual dynamic during day and night time hours whilst the wall section facilitates natural ventilation of the pavilion.
